Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to Airborne
The Valenti Modified Series returns to Airborne Park Speedway Saturday, September 6. It’s the Tour-type asphalt Modifieds’ first visit to the progressively-banked half-mile since 2010 when race winner Les Hinckley and Rowan Pennink took the checkers in a photo finish and wound up tangling into the first-turn wall.
Pennink is in contention for the 2014 Valenti Modified Series championship. The Pennsylvanian is currently second in points, trailing only Justin Bonsignore (460-430) prior to the Victor Johnson Memorial 100 at Monadnock Speedway August 23. Carl Pasteryak of Lisbon, Ct. is third in the standings 10 points behind Pennink.
The first eleven VMRS events have produced seven different winners. Richard Savary of Holbrook, Mass has three wins. Savary was one of three contenders veteran Norm Wrenn passed on the final lap at Seekonk recently to record his first career win.
Airborne’s progressively-banked surface is a good fit for the 600 HP Valenti Modifieds, offering plenty of racing room and the chance for cars to advance while running the middle groove or rim riding on the outside.
The Liquor & Wine Warehouse/Northern Cakes race card will include round #5 of the Northern Modified Series Challenge for dirt-style Modifieds, Twin 25’s for Ground Round Late Models plus the Key Rd Trailer Sales Renegades and the Busch Mini Modifieds. Post time is 4 p.m.
Race day tickets are adults/$20, kids 12-and-under free. Advanced tickets/$18 may be purchased through the Airborne Park Speedway office (518-647-4444), Rent-A-Wreck in Plattsburgh or during Saturday events at the speedway. For further info, visit www.airborneparkspeedway.com.
