Begor Scores First Career Sportsman Modified Win
The Ernie’s Discount Tools Sportsman Modifieds returned to the Airborne Park Speedway after a week off for the 358 Mod Shootout.
Mooers driver, Jamy Begor, picked up his first career Sportsman Modified victory with a late race pass on the inside of turn-3.
A caution flag at the half-way point of the 30-lap feature erased Jamy Begor’s full backstretch lead over Jamie LaFountain. The restart pinned Begor on the inside with LaFountain on the outside. Begor slid up the track in turn-2 and LaFountain was able to slingshot underneath for the lead. Begor showed persistence as he was able to work back to the inside and complete the pass on lap-28. Begor drove away to a five car length victory over Danny Sullivan. LaFountain, Bucko Branham and Nick Heywood completed the unofficial top-5.
In the Jeffords Steel Renegade division, mechanical issues bother a couple of machines, including the eventual race winner. Shawn Duquette had transmission issues in practice and was forced to retire his number 18 and jump into Brandon Nolan’s number 44N. Duquette started outside row-2 in the feature event and quickly drove to the lead. Duquette won in dominating fashon. The battle for second place came right down to the end, with Zach Rabtoy and Tylor Terry. Z. Rabtoy was the eventual second place finisher as he worked the inside line past Terry, who finished in third. Robert Gordon and Dylan Rabtoy completed the unofficial top-5.
The Busch Beer Mini Mods ran two segment races with the lowest combined score determining the overall finish. Dale O’Neil had a combined score of 2, picking up victories in both races en route to his fourth win of the year. Pete Blaney, John-Mike Bresette, Ed Bresette and Josh LaPorte completed the unofficial top-5.
Racing action resumes next Saturday night for Whelen Engineering night. Post time is 6pm.
