Airborne Park returns with Saturday special featuring sprint cars on August 10th!

PLATTSBURGH, NY. -- The “winged, wild and wicked fast” McGee Automotive Sprint Cars of New England (SCONE) will visit the half-mile Airborne Park Speedway this Saturday, August 10, marking the first sprint car race in Plattsburgh in five years. The sprints will be joined by the J&S Steel Sportsman, pro stocks, 9th State Cannabis Renegades, Moore Recycling Mini Stocks and the season’s first 50-lap Chris Frennier Motorsports “wild and crazy” enduro. The 358 modifieds will have the night off.

Plattsburgh’s Nick Heywood continues to lead the way in the sportsman points with a 15-point lead over Brandon, V.T.’s Joey Scarborough. Scarborough’s 2nd place finish on July 25 helped him close the gap with Heywood, which was at 30 points. Donovan Lussier is still within striking distance in 3rd position, 31 points back with nine points-paying features left on the 2024 schedule. Bucko Branham is 4th in points 45 markers back. Travis Bruno is 63 points back in 5th.

In two pro-stock features at Airborne Park in 2024, fans have been treated to outstanding races with late drama and action all over the track. Burton Ward captured the win back on June 15 and Luke Horning beat Marc Lalonde by inches on July 3.

Shawn Duquette leads the renegade ranks by 18 points over Tylor Terry. Terry has four wins to Duquette’s one, but Duquette has not finished outside the top-five once this season. Nate Guay is far from out of the hunt, he is 3rd in points 23 back of Duquette.

Ryan Senecal’s mini-stock points lead has grown in the last two weeks in the wake of a spectacular rollover from Rick Doner back on July 18. Speedy Bresette is the new 2nd-place points man, 25 markers behind Senecal. Doner is 3rd with 30 points, expected to return with a new car this Saturday.

The SCONE tour points are led by Campton, N.H.’s Matt Hoyt, who recently picked up a series win at the recently revived Unity Speedway in Maine. East Montpelier, V.T.’s Will Hull sits 2nd in the standings, 26 points out of the lead after a recent win at Devil’s Bowl and Jake Williams is 3rd, 28 points back. The ultra-fast, fuel-injected sprints paired with Airborne Park’s banking and size are expected to produce an outstanding display of speed and excitement in one of the most anticipated races of the year. More than 20 cars are expected with the strong possibility of a handful of drivers attending New York-based sprint car tours like the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) and Capital Region Sprint Association (CRSA).

SEACOMM Federal Credit Union will sponsor the nights racing and the folks from Liquor and Wine Warehouse in Plattsburgh will be at the track Saturday for “Make A Wish”, with a special bicycle giveaway and t-shirt toss. In total, six bicycles will be given away. Four from the Liquor and Wine Warehouse, one from Nick Heywood and one from driver Codie Aubin.

General admission for Saturday’s big show is just $20. Pit passes will be $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Grandstands open at 4:30PM, pits open at 3. Hot laps are slated for 5:15 and racing starts at 6. Please be advised that wristbands from Thursday, August 1 will not be honored for Saturday’s race. They may be used at any regular “Thursday Night Thunder” show until Sept 1st.
